We started this blog out of frustration at the steady stream of nonsense, masquerading as journalism, written in local and regional media regarding the situation at Ivicke.
Of course, some journalists attempt to critically examine the stories they write about but that takes time and resources, which media bosses would rather not give. So those journalists who are happy to quickly give a superficial account of a story alongside a copy-pasted statement from a politician, or some other authoritative figurehead, are the ones who get rewarded.
The result is a loss of nuance, context and perspectives, as well as basic facts, in a medium that is supposedly meant to inform “public debate.” This is how scapegoats are made by those in power. This is how those in power get a free pass to fuck people over.
In an attempt to reclaim some of our story, we put together a timeline of Ivicke news articles since it was occupied alongside (very) brief commentaries to straighten out some facts, provide more context and offer our perspective.
